06/22/22 – Was reviewed as part of the 5 year review process, the amendment updates and expands the policy language in Part 1, Subp. B Nondiscrimination. The language in Part 2 Applicability was broadened to include activities at non-system locations and online. The definitions of harassment and sexual harassment were updated and examples were provided for both. The definition of “protected class” was clarified to include pregnancy, child birth, and related medical conditions, and also expanded to include veteran status and the genetic information of employees. Technical edits made throughout document from the application of the new writing and formatting standards.

1/28/15 - Amended to include familial status as a protected class protected from discrimination in employment.

5/15/13 - Amended a technical error in 1B.1, Part 2, Subpart C3, changing "purpose and effect" to "purpose or effect" to be consistent with the requirement of state and federal law and with Board Policy 1B.1, in the first section of Part 2.

11/14/12 - Amended policy by expanding language on equal opportunity; adding gender expression and gender identity as protected classes protected from discrimination; specifically prohibiting retaliation on the basis of participation in a discrimination complaint under state or federal law; modifying the definition of student for purposes of the policy; and other changes to streamline or clarify language. Amendments take effect upon adoption.

6/21/06 - Amended policy to streamline and clarify language. Part 3 was amended to prohibit relationships between employees and students or employees over whom the employee exercises direct or significant authority or influence. Amendments do not take effect until November 1, 2006.
