Part 1. Purpose
To provide guidance for and implementing safety and security compliance standards, rules, laws, and industry practices.

Part 2. Authority
Policy 5.24 Safety and Security Compliance requires colleges, universities, and the system office to create, implement, and monitor appropriate plans, programs, procedures, and training consistent with applicable legal and professional standards, regulations, and available resources to promote the safety and security of individuals and system property.

Part 3. Definitions
All words used in this procedure have the same definitions as in Policy 5.24 Safety and Security Compliance.

Safe/Best Practices
Standards, rules, and industry best practices established by non-regulatory organizations such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), or the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Part 4. Safety and Security Operating Instructions
The Public Safety and Compliance Unit, through the vice chancellor for finance, will develop safety and security operating instructions in consultation with colleges, universities, and other stakeholders to provide for the health, safety, and security of staff, faculty, students, volunteers, and visitors. These operating instructions include, but are not limited to, compliance for the security of individuals and system property; environmental health; occupational safety; emergency management; and the operation, maintenance, and use of special pieces of equipment regulated by applicable laws, rules, or standards.
