Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum
The Minnesota State Nurse Aide (NA) Curriculum is provided by the Minnesota State HealthForce Center of Excellence, part of Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (Minnesota State).
Minnesota State campuses may use the curriculum at no cost; programs outside of the Minnesota State system pay a small fee.
The full curriculum is under 500 pages and available in PDF format, making it easy and cost-effective to print or integrate into hybrid courses.
The Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum 2024 Edition includes:
- Learning outcomes, and 11-unit topic outlines, and instructor slide deck;
- Skill check lists and the performance record;
- Two sets of unit quizzes; and
- Optional instructor handouts.
Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum is the most widely used curriculum in Minnesota. It provides low cost, flexible, quality classroom materials for nurse aide programs across the state.

FAQs about the Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum 2024 Edition
If you are a member of Minnesota State, you may obtain the curriculum at no cost by contacting HealthForce Minnesota directly.
Please allow 3-4 weeks for processing. Requests should be sent from your Minnesota State college or university email account to healthforcemn@winona.edu.
If you are not a public college or university in the Minnesota state system, you can obtain the curriculum materials on rSchoolToday.
Rather than purchasing textbooks per student, the Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum is licensed per program.
- $750 for Minnesota (in-state) programs
- $2,750 for out-of-state programs
The curriculum can be purchased through Minneapolis College at rSchoolToday.
Curriculum fees support future curriculum revisions and the development of supplemental materials between revisions. Major curriculum updates occur approximately every four years, and organizations using the Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum should plan to pay another curriculum fee at that time.
Access to the curriculum expires on December 31, 2028. Fees are not prorated based on the length of time between registration and the expiration date.
There is also a fee for the required Train the Trainer (TTT). Please see the TTT requirements in the next FAQ for details.

Who Must Complete Train the Trainer?
In general, anyone teaching in the classroom or lab using the Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum must complete Train the Trainer. See the breakdown below for specifics:
For non-Minnesota State programs (high schools, long-term care facilities, or independent, private, and nonprofit training programs):- Required: Classroom instructors and RN instructors responsible for program or course oversight, and any instructor who is teaching any course materials or skills.
- Not required: Supervised Practical Training (SPT) instructors and RNs evaluating skill proficiency only.
- Required: Classroom and RN instructors must either:
- Complete Train the Trainer or
- Complete a college-led training that covers all topics outlined in the Official Training Checklist (provided with the curriculum materials).
- Not Required: SPT instructors or RNs evaluating skill proficiency only.
The Minnesota State Nurse Aide (NA) Curriculum is provided by the Minnesota State HealthForce Center of Excellence, part of Minnesota State, and complies with the Minnesota Statutes 144A.61 NURSING ASSISTANT TRAINING.
“Subd. 3.Curricula. The chancellor of vocational technical education shall develop curricula to be used for nursing assistant training programs for employees of nursing homes and boarding care homes.”
This curriculum also meets the requirements for nurse aide training requirements set forth in Federal requirement 42 CFR 483.152 (a)(2).
Please note that Minnesota training programs using this curriculum must provide at least 75 total clock hours, including 16 clock hours of supervised practical training in a lab or other setting with a live person. Federal regulations do not specify clock-hour requirements for the didactic portion of the curriculum (see eCFR :: 42 CFR 483.152 -- Requirements for approval of a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program).
Use of the Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum does not guarantee program compliance. As with any textbook or instructional resource, each program remains responsible for meeting all applicable state and federal requirements.

The Minnesota Department of Health oversees the approval of nurse aide training programs in Minnesota. You can purchase the Minnesota State Nurse Aide Curriculum at any time during the program application and approval process.
