Joint News Release from Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and the University of Minnesota
In a true collaborative spirit, the University of Minnesota and Minnesota State Colleges and Universities will jointly sponsor a conference analyzing the state's workforce needs and encouraging stronger partnerships between business and industry and educational entities.
The Workforce Minnesota Conference will be October 9-10 at the RiverCentre in downtown St. Paul. The conference will feature workshops, keynote presentations and a panel discussion involving gubernatorial candidates Roger Moe, Tim Pawlenty, Tim Penny and Ken Pentel from 12-1:30 p.m. October 9.
The conference will provide an opportunity for Minnesota's key stakeholders to examine critical workforce issues, discuss solutions and explore strategic collaborations. The conference is designed for educators, elected and government officials, public and nonprofit agency managers, community representatives, large and small businesses, employment and labor organizations and workforce center officials.
Keynote speakers include Rebecca Yanisch, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Trade and Economic Development; Nancy Mills, executive director of the AFL-CIO Working for America Institute; and Christine Maziar, executive vice president and provost at the U of M.
Both the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and the University of Minnesota's College of Continuing Education are dedicated to supporting the workforce needs of Minnesota employers and aligning programs with the real and changing needs of the state.
The University of Minnesota continues to develop its offerings for adults and their organizations through the College of Continuing Education, which provides professional development and corporate education opportunities as well as lifelong learning, personal enrichment and career transition services.
The Workforce Minnesota Conference is open to the public at a cost of $250.
