The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculty has named Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Chancellor James H. McCormick as a recipient of the group's Distinguished Friend of Public Higher Education Award.
In a letter to the chancellor, the group said, "This award is given by APSCUF only to those who have, through their actions, shown an understanding of, and continuing support for, the principles of quality in public higher education. The officers of this Association believe no one more than you deserves to receive this award." The award was presented to McCormick in a ceremony April 15.
McCormick was the founding chancellor of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, where he served as the system's chief executive for 18 years. He became chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system in 2001.
"I am honored and grateful for this recognition," McCormick said. "Pennsylvania's system has made a profound difference in my life. Serving public higher education has been such a privilege over these years."
