Robert Hoffman re-elected chair of the MnSCU Board of Trustees

The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees today re-elected officers for the coming year. Robert H. Hoffman, Waseca, will serve as board chair; Ann Curme Shaw, Minnetonka, will serve as vice chair; and Cheryl Dickson, St. Paul, will be treasurer. Their one-year terms begin August 1.

Hoffman, who served as chair during the past year, is vice president of Taylor Corporation. He also is serving as president and CEO of Schmidt, one of the Taylor companies. He began his career as a teacher and coach in Redwood Falls and then served as principal of Wanamingo High School.

In 1969, he became an educational consultant for IBM. After Hoffman earned a doctorate in education from Utah State University, he returned to education as assistant superintendent of schools in Worthington, then became superintendent of schools in Waseca in 1974. He joined Brown Printing Company in Waseca the following year and later joined the Taylor Corporation.

Hoffman was appointed to a six-year term on the system's Board of Trustees in 2000. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Minnesota State University, Mankato, one of the system's seven state universities, and a doctorate from Utah State University.

Ann Curme Shaw is a vice president and associate general counsel for Ceridian Corporation. She holds a law degree from the Northwestern University School of Law, as well as a master's degree from the University of Illinois and a bachelor's degree from St. Mary's University of Minnesota. She was appointed to a six-year term on the Board of Trustees in 2002.

Cheryl Dickson retired in 2001 as president and chief executive officer of the Minnesota Humanities Commission, a position she held since 1977. She now consults for non-profit organizations on governance issues. Dickson is a graduate of Metropolitan State University, one of the system's state universities. She was appointed for a six-year term on the Board of Trustees in 2002.
