Effort focused on innovative strategies to build U.S. manufacturing competitiveness
Dr. Annette Parker, president of South Central College (Faribault and North Mankato), has been named to serve on the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Steering Committee. The committee was established by President Obama as part of a continuing effort to maintain U.S. leadership in the emerging technologies that will create high-quality manufacturing jobs and enhance America’s global competitiveness. Parker is one of 21 industry, academia and labor executives charged with leading the effort, including co-chairs Andrew Liveris, president, chairman, and CEO of Dow Chemical, and Rafael Reif, president of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
A September 26 White House press release and blog post by Jason Miller, Special Assistant to the President for Manufacturing Policy, announced the launch of the committee and highlighted the importance of the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership.
“This tremendous honor is powerful evidence of Dr. Parker’s nationally recognized expertise,” said MnSCU Chancellor Steven Rosenstone. “Our collaboration with industry, and continued focus on student success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, are helping to advance Minnesota’s manufacturing capabilities. These partnerships, and Dr. Parker’s leadership, will help keep Minnesota at the leading edge of emerging technologies and enhance our global competitiveness.”
“It is a privilege and an honor to be selected to serve on the President’s Advanced Manufacturing Partnership Steering Committee,” said Dr. Parker, South Central College President. “This opportunity will benefit our students and industry partners at South Central College as we collaborate on strategic initiatives with national industry, academia, and labor partners from across the country.”
Dr. Parker has served as president of South Central since July 2013. Previously, Dr. Parker served Kentucky Community and Technical College as system executive director, National Center of Excellence in Advanced Automotive Manufacturing, and system director, Workforce Education. She also served for 17 years at Lansing Community College as faculty and in leadership roles.
