D2L Brightspace Resources
D2L Brightspace is the learning management system used by each Minnesota State college and university.
The Minnesota State Learning Technologies team provides support and assistance with all aspects of the learning management system, including third party integrations and training on new Brightspace features and tools released by D2L.
Announcements
D2L Brightspace July 2026 (20.26.07) Update
Effective July 16, 2026, Minnesota State D2L Brightspace sites will be updated to the July 2026 release (version 20.26.07). With the July 2026 release, there are new and updated features available to instructors within D2L Brightspace.
Release highlights include an update to managing course groups:
- Instructors can try out the new Manage Groups experience, helping manage their course groups in Brightspace more efficiently.
- From the Groups tool, expand the fly-down menu and select ‘Turn it on’ to opt into the new Manage Groups experience. Opt in or opt out at any time using the same fly-down menu.
- One change is a ‘Group Category’ page that displays all group categories on a single page. This page helps an instructor review existing group categories including, each category’s enrollment type, number of groups, and associated group discussions or assignments.

D2L Brightspace Knowledge
The Minnesota State Learning Technologies team offers D2L Brightspace Knowledge for our community at the IT Service Desk. This knowledge is available to everyone (faculty, staff, and students) at Minnesota State.
The D2L Brightspace Knowledge contains a variety of knowledge articles including:
- frequently asked questions,
- help guides,
- video tutorials, and
- best practices using D2L Brightspace for teaching and learning.
The knowledge articles are searchable at the IT Service Desk, providing individuals with the option to submit a help request from the article.
Training Opportunities
A variety of training is offered or coordinated by the Minnesota State system office for D2L Brightspace users, including faculty, trainers, admins, and campus support staff.
Training is provided in a variety of venues, including, but not limited to: written documentation, video tutorials, on-demand recorded webinars, and in-person or virtual workshops.

Recorded Webinars and Tutorials
Find recorded NED webinars on the NED Resource Site and video tutorials for D2L Brightspace on the Minnesota State Learning Technologies Channel on Kaltura MediaSpace.

D2L Brightspace Monthly Update Schedule
Continuous delivery updates for D2L Brightspace are implemented on a monthly basis, typically on the third Thursday of the month. These dates are scheduled by our vendor D2L. Any changes to this schedule (such as delays in receiving the monthly update) will be updated here and communicated to campuses.
Note that on occasion D2L will also deploy hotfixes between monthly updates. Typically, no downtime is required for the monthly software updates.

D2L Brightspace and Software Licenses
A number of software applications can be used to build course materials in D2L Brightspace.
Current software applications that are licensed for Minnesota State schools are:
- H5P - H5P is a tool for creating interactive online learning content and activities, including slides,
books, practice questions, drag and drop, hotspot, and branching scenarios.
